Darren Jones MP Meets New Regional Mayor

The newest of Bristol’s Members of Parliament, Darren Jones, has yesterday (7th August) met with the first West of England Combined Authority Regional Mayor, Tim Bowles.

Commenting after the meeting, the Labour MP Darren Jones said:

“It was very important that I met Tim for this first time since both of our elections so that he was fully aware of the matters affecting my constituents – so that their voices were heard at a regional level. We discussed a number of items in detail, and I was delighted to hear that Tim is also a passionate supporter of the Henbury Loop Line and Metro West projects. These transport improvements, along with the proposed new railway station at the Park and Ride in Shirehampton, are crucial to ensuring enhanced accessible, local public transport. I will be working hard to ensure that these projects, as well as local bus routes, are on the table for future funding. I also shared with Tim the importance of ensuring all of the additional traffic, from the thousands of new homes being built near Filton and Cribbs Causeway, have public transport options available nearby, and do not end up clogging up Bristol North West’s roads on trips in and out of Bristol”.

Darren continued:

“Tim and I also discussed the importance of skills, training and providing employment opportunities to young people. Alongside this, we agreed on the need to ensure residents of working age have opportunities to retrain should they wish to. In light of the on-going uncertainty over Brexit, and the large number of international companies in the area, many of whose employees live in Bristol North West, I am keen to ensure that my constituents, and their children, get the very best skills and training to support their futures. The meeting with Tim is one of a series I am holding with various organisations, politicans and companies to ensure the voices of Bristol North West are being heard loud and clear”.
