New Labour MP opens office in Westbury-on-Trym

The newest of Bristol’s Members of Parliament has opened his new constituency office in Westbury-on-Trym this week, with a new team of staff to help serve his constituents in Bristol North West.

Darren said:

“It’s great to be finally up and running. I have a fantastic team of staff here in Bristol who are on hand to help my constituents. Our serviced office is roughly in the middle of the constituency with good transport links, and was much cheaper than commercial units on the high street.”   “But we won’t be sitting in the office all of the time. We’ll soon advertise our bookable surgery appointments – which will take place in every community across the constituency (using local libraries or community venues) – along with coffee mornings, pub politics and weekly street surgeries where I’ll be knocking on resident’s doors to listen to their concerns directly. We’re aiming to speak to at least 1000 residents a month. But with over 40,000 houses to knock on it’ll take us a bit of time to get round everyone!”

When a Member of Parliament is elected for the first time they have to set up their office from scratch. From changing the telephone number, to agreeing leases for new premises, to advertising and appointing staff to ordering the paper and IT.

During the General Election campaign Darren used social media to reach thousands of his constituents – with one of his Facebook Live videos (from his Gran’s kitchen in Southmead) reaching over 45,000 people.
