OneWeb Inquiry Launched

The BEIS Select Committee have launched an inquiry into the half a billion pound purchase of the bankrupt OneWeb Satellite. Answers are needed about the decision-making process behind this use of taxpayers’ money. Darren will be leading the inquiry to understand what assessments were made ahead of this purchase and what role this satellite will play in Britain’s technology strategy.

Speaking about the goals of the inquiry, Darren said:

It’s highly unusual to spend nearly £0.5bn of taxpayers money without following due process. Who in Downing Street forced civil servants to buy this OneWeb satellite against their advice? What assessments were made to ensure this purchase achieves our digital aims? How can we know this will deliver value for money? And how much more taxpayer’s money will it cost?
