Statement on Coronavirus

Whilst I have no symptoms, members of my family have today started to exhibit raised temperatures. As of this evening, Government advice is to self-isolate if any member of your household has a new cough OR high temperatures even if you haven’t had a positive test for COVID19. I will therefore now self-isolate for 14 days.

This will not impact my ability to represent residents across Bristol North West. As of last week, all of my Westminster and Bristol staff have started to work from home. Other than the post and telephone messages, which are being re-directed, all of our services can be conducted online or on the ‘phone.

My surgery appointments, alongside all of my constituency meetings, will now be done on the ‘phone and my office and I will continue to support local residents with official advice, local service updates and sign-posting, including for COVID19 volunteer responses across the community. I will continue to raise issues with Ministers on e-mail and via written parliamentary questions. Parliament will soon be in recess until the end of April so I don’t anticipate my absence from the House of Commons to cause any significant disruption.

You can register as a COVID19 volunteer by clicking here. You can keep up to date via e-mail by joining my MP mailing list here or by following me on Facebook here.

You can call my office and leave a message on 0117 959 6545 at any time. We will get back to you as soon as we can.

As you will now know, please follow the official Government advice which you can read here. If you or anyone in your household has a cough or high temperatures, please self-isolate for 14 days. Continue to wash your hands frequently.

If you have concerns or questions you can visit the NHS 111 website here, or – if you must – call 111 on the ‘phone.

If you have any further questions, please e-mail me on

Please take the official Government advice seriously, act responsibly, be kind and keep your neighbours in mind.
