General Election Now!

Following the chaos wrought upon the country in recent weeks, there have been calls by Opposition parties for an immediate General Election so that the public can have their say in who governs them. Although it is true that Boris Johnson received an electoral mandate from the country in 2019, Liz Truss only received a mandate from Conservative Party members in September.

Worse than that, Rishi Sunak only received the backing of around 200 Conservative MPs to be anointed as Prime Minister. All of this has happened without consulting the public about who they would like to govern them. Darren believes this to be wrong and supports the calls for an early parliamentary General Election.

You can read Darren’s response as follows:

Dear Constituent,

Thank you for taking the time to write to me and I hope that this reply finds you well.

As you will likely know, the Conservative Party has now anointed yet another Prime Minister onto the country without asking the public for their say in the matter of who governs them. To me, it remains clear that the Conservatives no longer have a mandate to govern. Unlike Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak was not even voted for by the Conservative Party membership.

With each and every new Prime Minister, the Conservative Party wants us to collectively shrug our shoulders at their ever-declining quality, as if it’s the best we can hope for. But I believe that the British people deserve so much more. My constituents in Bristol North West also deserve so much more.

A Labour government would offer a fresh start, to rebuild the country for a fairer, greener future.

We need a General Election now and I will continue to call for one for as long as it takes for my constituents to have their say in who governs them.

Yours sincerely,

Darren
