Culture of partying and rule-breaking means the Prime Minister must resign.

The revelations of a culture of partying and rule-breaking at the heart of the Government will have angered many but surprised few. Since evidence of illicit parties at 10 Downing Street first emerged in December 2021, Darren has received hundreds of emails from constituents expressing their concern.

On January 11th, when news of the Prime Minister’s May 2020 party broke, Darren called on the Prime Minister to resign. It is now reasonable to conclude that the Prime Minister has misled Parliament and lied to the public on multiple occasions to cover up damaging stories about the conduct of 10 Downing Street.

The country faces an urgent cost of living crisis and tremendous NHS pressures due to Omicron, yet instead, the Prime Minister focuses on protecting his job at the expense of the British public. Darren has written to constituents who have contacted him in the past weeks about the culture of sleaze and rule-breaking in the Prime Minister’s office. You can read the full letter here:

Dear Constituent,

Thank you for taking the time to write to me about the Prime Minister’s recent conduct and yet another party which took place in Downing Street when the country was in national lockdown. I hope that this reply finds you healthy and well.

Like you, I think that the Prime Minister has acted in a way that demeans the office he occupies. In May 2020, to pick the most recent allegations, the Government was continuing to ask all of us to make enormous sacrifices to try and prevent the spread of Covid-19. For months, people up and down the country had followed the rules that the Prime Minister had asked us to follow, and often at a great cost.

It is frankly unbelievable for him to now claim that he did not know what the rules were at the time when he, and other Government ministers, were explaining what they were on a daily basis at the No.10 Press Conferences.

My thoughts are with those who were to forced to make unbearable decisions during lockdown: whether that be not visiting elderly relatives, having to give birth without a partner in hospital, or shielding away alone from family and friends.

My thoughts are also with those who lost a loved one during the Covid-19 pandemic. In response to the Prime Minister’s comments in the House of Commons, the Chair of Covid-19 Justice UK, Hannah Brady, stated ‘every time he lies to us, he pours more salt into the wounds of those who have already lost so much to this pandemic, but that doesn’t stop him. He’s incapable of telling the truth and he needs to go’. It is in that context that I view the Prime Minister’s behaviour myself.

I also spoke about what I thought of the latest in the ‘partygate’ saga during my latest biweekly Facebook Live. Please see the link as follows: https://fb.watch/auOMT-zYfU/

The Prime Minister should now, for once, do the honourable thing and resign.

Please do let me know if I can provide you with any further assistance.

Yours sincerely,

Darren
